A Year In Review

At this time of year I like to look back and do a little self review of the year before and decide if I need to make any changes for the year ahead. But first here are some of my favourite moments of 2013.

The year started out with snow. Lots and lots of snow. Which I love for maybe a day, then it just becomes annoying.

In February I took a trip to the Necropolis in Glasgow. This is probably one of the creepiest places I’ve been to in Glasgow but still a nice place to go for a walk, especially at sunset.

July meant summer holidays and a long awaited trip to the Harry Potter Studio Tour. Its no Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios but still pretty good.

In August I celebrated my 23rd birthday and headed back to college to study Graphic Design. This meant for most of autumn I was too busy or tired for blogging.

2013 should have been called the year of the books. One of my resolutions at the start of 2013 was to read more books and even though I failed the 52 book challenge I now have enough books that I won’t need to go buying more for a while.

Overall 2013 was a very weird year. It felt much longer than a year and to be honest I still can’t believe that its actually 2014. And even though December didn’t go quite as planned (emergency surgery isn’t fun) I think overall 2013 was a pretty good year.

And now my plan for 2014:

  1. Loose weight.ย According to BMI I went from obese to overweight in 2013. To be exact I lost 53lbs. In 2014 I would like to go from overweight to normal. This only means loosing another 30lbs which seems doable in a year. I hope.
  2. Make more art. In 2013 I learned that I actually quite like graphic design. So I’m going to try doing more arty and crafting type stuff.
  3. Read more books.ย I’m probably going to fail the 52 book challenge again but I shall try anyway. If I actually find the time to read it should be pretty easy as I have a pile of books just waiting to be read.

I realise that the changes I want to make in 2014 are almost exactly the same things I wanted to change in 2013 so basically I’m just improving on them again.

  1. I, too, am a fan of Face Off, and also felt the pangs of ending The Night Circus because the circus wasn’t real! Wishing you a wonderful new year!

  2. I hope you meet your goals. And I completely understand about blogging while in school. It can be difficult to manage your personal time and business/academic time. good luck with that too.

    1. Hey thanks and thanks for following too! To be honest I had loads of free time for blogging but because of college and work I was too tired to actually do any blogging. Which was annoying.

  3. Beautiful photographs in this post ๐Ÿ™‚ I must admit that I am very jealous you went to the Harry Potter Studio Tour! I have been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal, though. The problem with being addicted to Harry Potter is that I always want to see and experience more of the fandom.

  4. Well based on your recommendations, I’ve just downloaded “The Universe versus Alex Woods” and “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry”… tonight’ll be the first time I’ve sat down to read a fiction book in about 3 years too (its been all textbooks, and non-fiction since )!!!

  5. Thanks for liking my Peope’s Palace post. A great way to learn more about the Necropolis, by the way, is to go on a Glasgow Women’s Library Heritage walk. Always fun!

  6. Good luck with your New Year goals. Knowing that the rest of the world is striving to achieve theirs, might help you when the going gets tough. I’ve already nosedived as far as trying to lose a few pounds. But I’m pulling myself up off the ground…and trying again…and again…for as long as it takes. At my age…quality of life is everything. And feeling healthy is a big part of it. hugs…

    1. Thank you. I was really unwell in December and lost loads of weight. But now that Iโ€™m getting better Iโ€™m finding it difficult getting back into a healthy eating routine. The fact that I canโ€™t go out and exercise yet isnโ€™t helping.
