A Mad and Wonderful Thing by Mark Mulholland.
In this debut novel we meet Johnny Donnelly – a young man in love with books, his country and the beautiful Cora Flannery. But in his secret other life, he shoots British soldiers; he is an IRA sniper.
As his two worlds begin to collide Johnny takes us on a journey through the history, legends and landscapes of his beloved Ireland. But in the end Johnny has to make sense of his inheritance and his life and does so in an unforgettable climax.
Honestly I can’t decide how I feel about this book. The beginning was boring but I started to enjoy it and the end was not what I expected. I have many feelings about this book but I feel the best thing to do would be to reread and write a full review at some point in the future.
