The Girl With All The Gifts by MR Carey

The Girl With All The Gifts by MR Carey.

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her “our little genius.” Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don’t like her. She jokes that she won’t bite, but they don’t laugh.

I think this is the sort of book where it is better going into it not knowing what it is about. My sister told me what the book was about as she has no concept of spoilers and I was surprised. Because just from the cover and the title you wouldn’t think it was this sort of book. But its good, its really good. Its one of the best books I have read in this genre.

I’m trying to keep this review as spoiler free as possible. But if you really want to know what type of book this go to my 52 Books page and find the 25th book under the 2014 list.

Thanks for reading.

Thank you for the summary! I wouldn’t have gone for the book, or even have known about its existence! I really want to read it now! πŸ˜€

I mean you can go look if you want, I’m not stopping you πŸ˜€ But I went into it knowing what it was about and I just feel that its the sort of book you don’t want to know too much about. Mostly because its told from the perspective of the little girl.

Its strange, I don’t like scary books either and I didn’t find it scary. But it was the runner up in the horror category of Goodreads 2014 book awards. I wouldn’t say it was a horror even though apparently it is.

Good to know. I finished ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’ and it was a really good read! I’m finding it hard to pick up another one and get reading – though I am a bit distracted at the moment, getting ready to move country for a while.

I LOVED this book. It took me a good while to get into it but once you get over the first 20 or so pages I flew through it! And that ending–was not expecting that type of ending. Was so happy with it ^.^

It reminded me of that Doctor Who episode where the 9th Doctor was so happy that “everybody lives”

I don’t know, I didn’t think it had a happy ending. It was sort of a everyones gonna die in the end but not right now type of ending. But I suppose thats going to happen anyway.

I’m half way through reading this atm πŸ˜€ The blurb sounded soo intriguing, but it wasn’t at all what I expected, I’m not really into the whole zombie like thing, but I am still enjoying it, it is well written and the character interactions make it interesting πŸ™‚ I’m excited to see how this story will end πŸ™‚ xx

This was an incredibly good book! It’s definitely not what you are expecting. I didn’t read too much about it, so thought it was literally about a girl with gifts – which, naturally, made me think of superpowers. But you are not disappointed by its reality! This was a heartbreaker

I read this not long ago and really liked it. I had no expectation going in and was surprised as well as the tale unfolds. Was happy with it though, thought the characterisation was interesting πŸ˜€

I happened upon your review. bought the book and read it. I’m glad you didn’t put up any spoilers. It was perfect to read it just going by the excerpt. There’s a German audio version, and they give away everything within just two sentences!

I really hate it when they give away spoilers right at the start. I watched the TV adaption of Ken Follett’s Pillars of the Earth a while ago and they gave away a massive spoiler (which you don’t get in the book till right at the end) within the first 30 seconds of the show. Pissed me off so much.

I guess I should specify: their synopsis gives it away, not the read book. But by listening to the first few sentences, I was glad I read the original, I don’t think the translation is very good.
